Photographing Fireworks

I was shooting fireworks this weekend and thought I would share a few tips.

This shot is a panorama of the street scene with the individual fireworks
composited in later. I shot all of the images on a tripod with my
Nikon D5100 and an 18-135 lens. I experimented with the exposure and found
5 to 8 seconds at f/8 worked well for a good exposure. I did shoot some up to 20
second exposures and found if there were a lot of fireworks these shots were
badly overexposed. When processing these in Photoshop I like using a high pass
filter sharpening first thing, that coupled with a selective saturation increase really
makes the fireworks pop.
