Red Tailed Hawk Portrait Work in Progress 3

I did some more painting this afternoon. I decided to over paint with oils after all,
I like that creamy smooth texture for the background.

Here is the painting as of today.

Read on after the break for the step by step photos.

I added a little more detail around the beak and eye.

I switched over to oils and changed the background color.
I also painted some white highlights on the body.

I glazed over the Burnt umber with some Red and went back in with yellow and white to paint in some highlights and feather detail on the head.

Refined some of the shadows and shapes with Burnt Umber.

Started adding more feather detail in the body with thinned Burnt Umber with some Red mixed in and then went back and painted some more white highlights to refine the shapes. It needs to dry at least overnight now and then I will continue tomorrow.
