It's time to start painting again. I've been picked to display some of my art at the Let It Shine Gallery in the Joe Crowley Student Union at UNR for Black History Month. I didn't want to just show old work so I'm trying to do a couple new pieces just for the show. This one is inspired by a digital painting of a photograph I captured while living in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania. I'm calling it "Hot Fun in the Summertime" getting my inspiration from the song by Sly and the Family Stone.
This is starting out with a stabilo drawing on canvas sealed with a light coat of spray lacquer.
I'm starting this painting with acrylic paint and thinking I might add some acrylic ink on top before I'm finished. We'll see. :)
Here is the Stabilo pencil drawing on my 16"x20" canvas sealed with lacquer
so the lines won't smear as I paint.
I'm starting with somewhat of a Grisaille technique, working with
Burnt Umber and White to define the tonal values.
Here I am introducing a little Green to define the painted areas of the porch
and also adding some more depth to the shadow areas.
More depth to the shadows and I also added a little Blue to the
pants and in the deeper shadows.
I'll probably keep painting today as it's really hard to stop once I get started even though with the rain today the light is really crappy.
I like the loose style this one has started with and hope I can maintain that to the end.
